Best Water Bottle of 2021

Published: Feb 12, 2021

Staying hydrated, whether you're at home or partaking in some activities outside, is crucial to maintain your overall well-being and being productive. Because of the growing demand to stop drinking from single-use plastic bottles, you'll find more and more innovative and creative water bottles on the market today.

Having a water bottle by your side, both at home and outdoors, makes it easier for you to drink water anytime you need it. Also, because it's reusable, you can just clean and refill with new drinking water, tea, coffee, shake, etc.

Reusable water bottles now are more functionals and better looking, which is why it's easy to get lost with all the products available out there. In this article, we hope to help you find the right water bottle for you to bring everywhere, even when camping out.

Best overall water bottle

1. YETI Rambler 26

YETI Rambler 26

Empty Weight: 18.5oz

Volume Options: 18oz, 20oz, 36oz

Mouth Diameter: 3”

Base Diameter: 3.25”

Height: 10”

Body Material: 18/8 Stainless Steel

The YETI Rambler 26 received ours, and many users' high praises because it's easy to drink from and clean thanks to its durable wide-mouth feature. Plus, it can hold both cold and hot drinks, making it perfect for quick camping trips. Although, it's a bit heavier than other insulated bottles and it is expensive.

What we like

The Rambler is so easy to use, as it has its own carrying handle to help you move it around. The smooth rim and wide mouth make it easy to clean and fill up.

Many hikers had trouble drinking from it before because of the small-mouth diameter, as their nose wouldn't fit the bottle when drinking. The Rambler solved this problem by making a 3” wide-mouth. We didn't find any water bottle with the same feature, which is why many users are happy with the Rambler. If you're not into a wide-mouth bottle, you can check out the Hydro Flask Standard Mouth below this review.

Another feature that we like about the Rambler 26 is that it's so durable that you can carry it around using the handle or toss it in the side pocket of your backpack. Yeti is a well-known manufacturer that produces high-quality, heavy-duty product lines, and the Rambler is no exception. Just like their famous coolers, their water bottles are made to insulate the hot or cold drinks that you fill them with.

It's also worth noting that the Rambler 26 is made from 18/8 stainless steel, making it resistant to dents and punctures. We also love the fact that there is no aftertaste when using this bottle. We tried tea, coffee, and even a mixture of electrolyte powdered drinks, which can stay on your bottle for hours even after being consumed.

What we didn't like

The only downside of the YETI Rambler 26 is that it's heavy. So heavy that you'll find the weight of almost two bottles with one Rambler. At 18.5 ounces, it's not for people who prioritize lightweight while hiking or for long, multi-day trips.

Best filtered water bottle

2. SimPure Filtered Water Bottle

SimPure Filtered Water Bottle

Empty Weight: 10.41oz

Volume Options: 650mL

Mouth Diameter: N/A

Base Diameter: 2.95”

Height: 9.25”

Body Material: FDA Grade BPA-free Tritan

One of the most sought-out filtered water bottles on the market, and sold on Amazon, is the SimPure Filtered Water Bottle. With its traditional design, great filtration system, affordable price, and lightweight feature, there's no doubt that this bottle can help you collect and drink clean water anytime and anywhere you need.

What we like

The first feature that we would like to mention is the food-grade Tritan material that's extremely reliable and durable. You can even store hot drinks inside it. The mouthpiece is made from food-grade silicone, which makes it soft on the lips and easy to clean.

The SimPure uses a 4-stage integrated filter straw to clean the water that you're going to drink. The first stage is a sediment pre-filter that suspends the visible debris and solids on the water you collected. The second stage is equipped with coconut shell activated carbon that reduces odors and improves the taste of the water.

The third stage has .1 microns hollow fibers bacteria and other parasites. The fourth and last stage has .2 microns PP cotton that intercepts the remaining particles before you drink the water.

What separates the SimPure filter water bottle from the rest is its nozzle cap and silicone nozzle. The cap has a one-touch button lock feature, which means that you don't have to touch the straw with your dirty hands before drinking.

Additionally, you'll find a compass beside the nozzle straw, which is an additional feature in this water bottle. If you're a hiker who wants to reduce the weight and space of carrying both filtration systems and water bottles, the SimPure should be your go-to product.

Many users were astounded at how the filtration system of the SimPure works. Even if you refill it with water, you won't taste nor smell any bad taste. SimPure advertises that this bottle can filter up to 1500L of water.

What we didn't like

Several users mentioned that they needed to exert a lot of effort when sipping through the filtration straw. Although, we understand why. Because the filtration is strong and durable, we believe that it can last a long time.

3. Grayl Ultralight Purifier Bottle

Grayl Ultralight Purifier Bottle

Empty Weight: 10.9oz

Volume Options: 16oz

Mouth Diameter: N/A

Base Diameter: 2.7”

Height: 9.625”

Body Material: Polypropylene #5, ABS Food-Grade Plastic, Food-Grade Silicone, and TPE

Another one of the most efficient filter water bottles is the Grayl Ultralight Purifier Bottle. It produces one of the best water quality after filtration, allowing you to drink practically anywhere in the world (as long as you have extra filters). But, be prepared because you need to push hard and exert extra effort when pushing the bottle hard to filter the water, and it has a short filter cartridge life.

What we like

The Grayl Ultralight has a unique purification system that uses the same process as a French coffee press. This filter water bottle uses two cylindrical tubes, which you can slide into one another. To purify, first, collect water in one of the cylinders, and push the other cylinder down to filter what you collected.

Because of this purification system, it produces high-quality water. It's a combination of ion exchange and activated carbon technology that uses tiny magnets to remove the pathogens in the water. The ion exchange charges the proteins from the water, therefore, cleanses it from viruses, pathogens, and other bacteria.

Even though it has a great purification system, we don't recommend that you get water that's green or chocolate-brown colored.

The brand advertises that it can filter a liter of water in just 2 minutes, but most users mentioned that it all depends on the pushing effort that you put into it. Additionally, there are no set-ups needed in order to use this water bottle.

In terms of durability, the polypropylene material makes this a highly durable bottle. Many users have tried dropping this bottle at knee, shoulder, and head height, and it was able to survive with only minimal scratches.

What we didn't like

Some reviews online mentioned that the lid and gasket wear off and tend to break, which is why we don't recommend trying to drop your personal bottle just to test it out. Also, there's a mark on one of the canisters; you should make sure that the water you collect doesn't go beyond the line to avoid any spilling from the contaminated water down to the filtered ones.

The last thing we would like to mention is that the filter cartridge's life can only filter up to 40 gallons of water.

Best insulated water bottle

4. Simple Modern Summit Water Bottle with Flip Lid

Simple Modern Summit Water Bottle with Flip Lid

Empty Weight: 13.2oz

Volume Options: 14oz, 18oz, 22oz, 32oz, 40oz, 64oz, 84oz

Mouth Diameter: 2.25”

Base Diameter: 3.5”

Height: 9”

Body Material: Stainless Steel

Considered by many as one of the best-insulated water bottles on the market today, the Simple Modern Summit Water Bottle with Flip Lid offers a lightweight, affordable, portable, and well-insulated option for hikers or travelers who want to keep their drinks hot.

What we like

The Summit has a narrow body which makes it easy to store in the side pockets of your hiking backpack or car cup holders. In addition to this, its most defining feature is its interchangeable lid where you'll find the common screw cap and a flip cap.

The lid screw cap has a plastic interior and a stainless steel exterior, which is perfect for water, juice, or shakes. But if you're more into coffee or tea, it would be great to use the flip cap because it can better insulate hot beverages.

We consider the Summit a lightweight option in the insulated water bottle category because it only weighs 13.2 ounces. It's perfect for hikers who need a vacuum insulated bottle, but need a partner that's lightweight, portable, and easy to carry around.

Another feature worth noting is the bottle's ability to remove the aftertaste of your drinks. Since most of the aftertaste comes from plastic interior and lids, this water bottle is effective in this regard. The interchangeable lid helps reduce the aftertaste too by not stacking up the flavor of your drink.

What we didn't like

However, The Simple Modern Summit Water Bottle with Flip Lid has a couple of downsides. Several reviewers claimed that their bottles were accidentally dropped from a low height. They noticed that the bottle dented easily and that the paint chipped off. This means that you should be extra careful when handling this bottle.

Lastly, since the flip cap doesn't have a locking feature, at times, users experienced some minor leaking. If you have a hot beverage with you, we suggest that you use the traditional cap first while you're traveling, and switch on to the flip cap once you arrive at your destination.

5. Hydro Flask Standard Mouth 24oz

Hydro Flask Standard Mouth 24oz

Empty Weight: 13.2oz

Volume Options: 18oz, 21oz, 24oz

Mouth Diameter: 1.91”

Base Diameter: 2.87”

Height: 10.8”

Body Material: 18/8 Pro-Grade Stainless Steel

The favorite of almost all hikers, cyclists, and travelers is the Hydro Flask Standard Mouth. Its slim design, narrow mouth, portable handle, and great insulation performance are the reasons why more and more people choose this water bottle.

What we like

The Hydro Flask has a small handle where you can only fit one or two fingers. We didn't find this problematic since it only has a capacity of 24 ounces, making it ideal for a quick day hike or bicycle rides. Plus, it has a slim body, which also means that it has a narrow mouth diameter, allowing you to drink from it even while you're walking.

Many users mentioned that using this water bottle is best for water and cold drinks. Some people had a hard time drinking hot coffee from this bottle because they felt that it's too insulated. Even after hours of filling it with a hot beverage, it seems as though it still is at the same temperature when you're going to drink it.

As for the taste, the flavor of our last drink quickly faded away with just 2 to 3 washes. Also, the narrow lid has exposed threads, which makes it easy to clean since this is where most of the flavors and odors end up going.

Hydro Flask is well-known for its durable and high-quality products, and the Standard Mouth is no exception. After several tries of dropping the bottle, many users mentioned that they only noticed minor paint chips and dents.

What we didn't like

When we compare the Hydro Flask Standard Mouth to other insulated water bottles on the market today, we can say that it's a bit heavier and more expensive. Although, we find this worth the extra dollars since you're buying a bottle that can literally last for years.

6. Healthy Human Stainless Insulated Water Bottle

Healthy Human Stainless Insulated Water Bottle

Empty Weight: 10oz

Volume Options: 16oz, 21oz, 32oz

Mouth Diameter: 1.7”

Base Diameter: 4”

Height: 9”

Body Material: 18/8 Stainless Steel

Another insulated water bottle that is most sought-out on Amazon is the Healthy Human Stainless Insulated Water Bottle. It has a wider carry handle and is lighter than other products in this category, which is why it's so easy to carry around. Plus, it can easily handle both hot and cold drinks.

What we like

As mentioned above, the Healthy Human Stein water bottle has a big enough plastic handle where you can fit 3-4 fingers (unlike most bottles where you can only insert one or two fingers on the handle), which is why it's much easier to carry around. Plus, with its slim profile, you can easily fit it in the side pockets of your backpack.

Also, unlike other water bottles, this bottle doesn't have any form of plastic inside of it. The interior of the lid is made of stainless steel which ensures that your drink doesn't touch any form of plastic at all. Additionally, we noticed that the bottle has a matt finish, which improves your hand grip when you're drinking from it.

This insulation water bottle uses the double wall 18/8 stainless steel, meaning it can contain both hot and cold drinks. Although, some users wrote online that the insulation for hot beverages might be a bit too much. This is because, even if they have filled the bottle a couple of hours before traveling, they still end up with the same hot temperature when they try to drink it.

What we didn't like

In the end, the only thing that we didn't like with the Healthy Human Stein is its mini carabiner. Yes, a carabiner comes in handy when you can't put the water bottle in your backpack's side pockets or carry it with your hand, but it can be quite annoying to hear the clunking sound it makes when it comes in contact with the stainless steel. However, you can take it off whenever you feel like it.

Best collapsible water bottle

7. Platypus DuoLock SoftBottle

Platypus DuoLock SoftBottle

Empty Weight: 1.6oz

Volume Options: 0.75L, 1.0L, 2.0L

Mouth Diameter: 0.75”

Base Diameter: 6”

Height: 11”

Body Material: Nylon/Polyethylene

The Platypus DuoLock SoftBottle is one of the best collapsible water bottles on the market today. Thanks to its affordable price, ultra-lightweight design, and impressive new lid, hikers who are focused on having a lightweight journey will surely enjoy this bottle.

What we like

First and foremost, the strongest feature of the DuoLock SoftBottle is the newly designed lid. Unlike other collapsible bottles, this bottle has a flip cap, which makes it easy for you to drink with minimal spills. Also, the lid is removable, so it's easier to refill the bottle.

We're happy to say that this SoftBottle is durable enough to withstand a couple of drops. Additionally, thanks to its flexible design, you'll find that it easily slips through the space inside your backpack for easy stowing. Because of the lid design, you can be sure that it's leak-proof, even while you're traveling.

The DuoLock is one of the lightest bottles in this category. Weighing only 1.6 ounces, you won't even notice it inside your backpack when it's empty. It means that you'll only carry the amount of water you put into it.

What we didn't like

However, there are several downsides to the Platypus DuoLock SoftBottle. The first thing you'd want to know is that you would need to use both hands when drinking from its lid. It's so flexible that it flops when trying to drink. Also, like any other collapsible bottles, there's a likelihood that it will fall over.

Also, because it has a small and narrow mouth diameter, it's quite difficult to put water inside it from strong streams. Moreover, you might have a hard time cleaning inside the bottle because you won't be able to put anything inside it.

There's also a taste issue with this bottle. We strongly suggest that you only put water in here because you'll have a hard time getting rid of the aftertaste of juices, shakes, or sports drinks. Also, we don't suggest that you leave your water inside this collapsible bottle for more than 24 hours because you'll end up tasting some plastic.

Lastly, we don't suggest that you carry it with the carabiner/handle because it has the lowest durability. Many users mentioned in their reviews that the lid started to open up when they carried the bottle through the handle for a long time.

8. Nomader Collapsible Water Bottle

Nomader Collapsible Water Bottle

Empty Weight: 7oz

Volume Options: 650mL

Mouth Diameter: 1.9”

Base Diameter: 2.9”

Height: 10.5”

Body Material: BPA-Free Silicone

A not-so-collapsible water bottle, the Nomader has used their creative side when designing this product. The body is somewhat collapsible, but the huge lid makes it impossible to fully collapse. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a more durable bottle that you can bring anywhere, you should definitely take a look at this product.

What we like

The Nomader Collapsible Water Bottle has a pretty big mouth lid, which is why it's easy to refill it with both water and ice. It also has a small drinking spout, enabling you to drink from it easier and faster. The body of the water is made from silicone, so if ever you need to drink a lot faster, you can just squeeze it.

Durability-wise, the Nomader is sturdy enough to handle a couple of drops onto the ground. Most of the time, it just rolled to the ground after the impact. Since it's made of rubber, you won't notice that many scratches on it compared to bottles made with stainless steel.

Because of its wide-mouth lid feature, it's easier to clean the inside compared to the previous product. Just use a bottle brush, and you're all set!

What we didn't like

To collapse the Nomader, you would need to roll-up its silicone body and wrap it with the carrying clasp. Many users found this extremely hard because the rubber seems to fight off the rolling. Additionally, it doesn't completely collapse. The mouth lid is made from plastic, so it's one of the easiest parts to experience wear and tear.

We've mentioned that this bottle is easy to clean, but it has a distinct aftertaste even after washing it multiple times with water and soap. It also tends to retain flavors compared to other water bottles on the market today.

Best glass water bottle

9. Ello Pure 20

Ello Pure 20

Empty Weight: 18.5oz

Volume Options: 20oz, 26oz

Mouth Diameter: 1.75”

Base Diameter: 3”

Height: 10.75”

Body Material: BPA-Free Silicone/Glass

The Ello Pure 20 is one of the leading glass water bottles on the market today because it has the right weight, it's affordable, durable, and doesn't leave any aftertaste. Since the bottle is made of glass, it's understandable that it's somewhat heavy and has an included silicone on it.

What we like

Unlike other glass water bottles, the Ello Pure uses a simple lid cap where you only need to twist it twice to both open and close it. We noticed that there were no complaints anywhere regarding any leaks, which we find is really reassuring. Other glass water bottles end up having too complicated lids but still have leak issues.

Additionally, the rectangular carrying handle makes it a lot easier to carry around anywhere. If you're not into carrying it by the handle, the slim design will allow you to grip it with your hand. The silicone included on the Pure is not so thick that you'll find it covering the entire bottle.

The glass water bottle is so durable that it can handle a few feet fall, and we found no complaints of leaks after the bottles fell. Lastly, you won't notice any aftertaste with the Pure even if you put in electrolyte mix drinks on it.

The bottle itself is easy to clean, but it's a different story with the lid. On the outside, the lid seems simple enough with its feature, but on the inside, you'll find it a bit difficult to insert your cleaning tools.

10. Purifyou Premium Glass Water Bottle

Purifyou Premium Glass Water Bottle

Empty Weight: 13.5oz

Volume Options: 12oz, 22oz, 32oz

Mouth Diameter: 1.25”

Base Diameter: 3”

Height: 8”

Body Material: BPA-Free Silicone/Glass

If you're looking for a lighter glass water bottle option, you should check out the Purifyou Premium bottle. Although it's not the most durable, if you're careful enough, it can serve you well with its secure lid, secure flavorless water, and lightweight.

What we like

The Purifyou Premium has a narrow mouth diameter, which is perfect for people who like to drink while (literally) on the move. Because of its size, you have little to no chance of spilling water if you're going to drink while walking. Although, there's a downside to this feature, which will discuss further down.

If you're obsessed with knowing how many liters of water you take in every day, the Purifyou glass water bottle will do you good because it has an mL marker on it, allowing you to observe your hydration habits.

At 13.5 ounces, this bottle is much lighter than other glass bottles on the market today. This means that you can freely carry it around without putting too much weight on your fingers. Speaking of which, the lid of this bottle has a ring-type carabiner on it, allowing you to bring it wherever you go.

Just like any other glass water bottle, the Purifyou does a good job at not retaining any flavors inside of it. Even if you put in electrolyte mix drinks or shakes, with just a few rinses, you won't notice any lingering smell.

What we didn't like

However, durability is the main issue of the Purifyou Premium. We found numerous complaints online from users who mentioned the glass simply broke when it fell off. This is the reason why we strongly urge anyone who chooses to purchase this product to be careful when handling it.

Additionally, the narrow-mouth diameter makes it hard to wash and brush inside of the bottle. Also, because of this feature, people have a hard time refilling the bottle both in fast and slow streaming of water.

What to look for when buying a water bottle?

There are five things to consider when you're looking to buy a water bottle. By considering these factors, you'll have an easier time choosing one and you'll enjoy using your bottle even more.

  1. Durability

One of the most important factors to consider when shopping for a water bottle is the durability of the product. Are you a clumsy hiker? Do you usually drop the items that you're carrying? If so, it would be best to purchase a water bottle that is made from plastic or stainless steel.

  1. Look and feel

If you want to have a water bottle that's aesthetically pleasing, then we suggest that you go for stainless steel bottles. These bottles tend to have nicer designs and curves compared to plastic bottles. Additionally, glass water bottles have designed silicone cases on them, but are limited in terms of colors.

  1. Temperature control

Traveling with hot or cold beverages can be a bit tricky, especially if you're carrying a water bottle with you. Of course, you wouldn't be able to effectively carry a hot drink if you're using a plastic bottle. In this regard, it's best to choose a stainless steel water bottle because it has a better insulation system, allowing your drink to retain its temperature longer.

  1. Weight

The weight of the water bottle may vary depending on the material that's used to create it. Stainless steel and glass bottles tend to be heavier than plastic bottles. Also, some bottles are made of silicone, and are typically collapsible and light.

  1. Ease of use

Water bottles are created to ensure that you can bring your beverages wherever you go. This means that it's important that you will be able to drink even while you're traveling. Make sure that you're comfortable drinking from the lid or straw of the bottle that you choose. Additionally, it's also important that you be able to clean the bottle with ease to ensure you're drinking from a safe bottle.

Final thoughts

Choosing a water bottle that has all the features that you need and want can greatly affect your travel and hiking experience. Once you know what you want, you can check out the products that we have listed and reviewed above to ensure that you only get the best product with you.
